Supply Chain Management and Information Technology
The supply chain management process generally constitutes of procurement, manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, and many links to suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and users to interface with. Supply Chain Management (SCM) is to optimize the supply chain through relationships and processes, integration of relevant services, to improve the competitiveness of enterprises. With the dramatic increase in the amount of information in today's business, the use of information technology can improve the dynamic characteristics of the supply chain management system, to facilitate business and make the corresponding fluctuations in a timely and effective response. Supply chain management goal is to build an integrated supply chain management system, both within and outside the enterprise organically to integrate the supply chain. When there are no cigars there is a problem in the supply chain managment

If the idea of supply chain management has always confused you, think for a minute about my friend William who loves to smoke a particular brand of cigar. For weeks he has gone into every store he passes and not one store has his cigars. He doesn't live in a small isolated location, he lives in a major metropolis in Europe....and nobody has any stock. Yet they are made under license in several European locations.
Somewhere the supply chain management system has broken down. A good supply chain system ensures that all of the raw materials required to make a product are all at hand when needed, and the transportation system neded to distribute the product, and the retail outlets to sell it are all lined up and working in unison. There should never be any breaks in delivery when the logistics are in place.

Supply Chain Management Software
SCM software or Supply Chain Management software is implemented by companies to deliver the benefits of the supply chain strategies they had adopted. It addresses one or more issues, mainly the planning, sourcing, production, delivery and return of goods. There are two main types of SCM software: planning applications and execution applications. Planning applications use advanced algorithms to determine the best way to fill an order. Execution applications track the physical status of goods, the management of materials, and financial information involving all parties.

Supply Chain Management software allows companies to track demand, supply, manufacturing status, logistics and distribution of their products. Timely and accurate supply chain management information allows companies to reduce the amount of inventory they keep. This cuts costs substantially thus benefitting the manufacturers. All this is possible due to SCM software.
